Course Description

This is an engaging professional development course that equips educational leaders with the tools and strategies needed to craft an impactful vision statement. Participants will learn how to:

  • Understand the Role of Vision in Leadership: explore the importance of a clear vision in guiding decision-making, shaping school culture, and aligning efforts across the school community.
  • Create a Shared Vision: learn methods for engaging teachers, staff and students in the vision development process to ensure it reflects the collective values and aspirations of the entire school community.
  • Implement and Communicate the Vision: gain strategies for effectively communicating the vision statement, implanting it into the school culture.
  • Evaluate and Adapt the Vision: understand how to assess the relevance of the vision statement over time and make adjustments to ensure it remains aligned with the evolving needs of the school.

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand visionary leadership by defining the role of a vision statement in school leadership and organizational success.
  • Assess the current school context by conducting a situational analysis of the school’s existing vision and strategic direction.
  • Engage the community members in the visioning process by demonstrating effective techniques for involving teachers, students, parents, and the broader school community in the vision development process.
  • Craft a Compelling Vision Statement by developing a draft vision statement that is clear, inspirational, and aligned with the school’s core values and by applying best practices in writing vision statements, ensuring clarity and emotional appeal.
  • Communicate the Vision Effectively by creating a communication plan to share the vision statement with all members of the school community.
  • Integrate the Vision into Strategic Planning by aligning the vision statement with the school’s strategic goals and action plans.

Target Group

This course is designed for educators of all levels as well as individuals interested in the topic.

Learning Outcomes

Methodologies: 

  • Facilitating Learning Circles (small groups of 3-5 participants) for deeper dialogue on specific topics, such as school community engagement or strategic planning.
  • Integrating reflective exercises, where participants can think critically about their own leadership style and the role of vision in their school.
  • Using online platforms (e.g., Padlet, Miro, or Google Docs) for collaborative work and brainstorming.
  • Design Vision-Building Workshops where participants engage in hands-on activities

Assessments:

  • Group Project: participants will work in small groups where they collaboratively develop a vision statement for a fictional school
  • Presentation: each participant presents their vision statement and strategic plan to the group, simulating a presentation to a school board or leadership team.
  • Q&A Session: Following the presentation, participants answer questions from peers and the trainer, demonstrating their ability to justify and defend their vision.

Price:€510 (5 days) - including an extracurricular activity and a welcome lunch or dinner

*The language of the course is English, linguistic aid may be provided for speakers of Hungarian with lower language abilities.

Conditions

The course complies with all rules as set in the Quality Standards of the Erasmus+ program. Extracurricular activities are in addition to the lessons, and study groups are international. Note: should the latter condition not be met, participants will be informed 40 days in advance.

Payment facilities: participants with funding from the actual year’s project budget may ask to request a deposit of EUR 100 to guarantee their places on the course and pay the rest of the fees later.

It is possible to take part in 2 consecutive courses, please book both separately. A price reduction of 15% will be applied.
